South Sa-Hali Elementary School's Personal Digital Device Use Guidelines and Expectations

Digital Devices

As you know the BC Government came up with a new regulation about digital devices in schools.  The government passed it to the Districts across the province to come up with guidelines, our District asked each school to come up with some guidelines.

After reviewing the feedback from a survey sent home last June to the South Sa-Hali school community and in discussion with teachers we have come up with some guidelines (they are the same as they were in the past).  It was determined that digital devices were not use for educational purposes at South Sa-Hali Elementary.  Students have access to chromebooks and Ipads to work online at school.  If students need to communicate home or vice versa, parents can call the office and students can use the office phone to communicate home.

  1. Digital devices including cell phones, smart watches, Ipods and any communication devices should be left in student locker throughout the day.
  2. Digital devices including cell phones, smart watches, Ipods and any communication devices may not be taken on field trips.
  3. Digital devices including cell phones, smart watches, Ipods and any communication devices may not be taken on the playground at recess and lunch.
  4. Exceptions can be made for medical reasons when the device is used to monitor an illness such as diabetes.
  5. If a students have their digital devices out during the day, the device will be put in the office for the rest of the day.  Parents will be contacted and student will be able to retrieve their digital device at the end of the day.
These guidelines are in line with the provicial mandate.
